Car tires are fixed with screws. How do such thin screws bear the weight of the car body?

The wheel is mounted on the axle by screws, but the main function of the screws is to make the wheel stick tightly to the axle head of the axle. The load of the car body is not mainly borne by the screws, but by the axle head.
Characteristics of screws
Bolts are generally called "fasteners". Their main function is to provide pressure and press the connecting parts tightly together. The tensile strength of bolts is much greater than their shear strength. If the car tire is only fixed by screws, the screws will bear a lot of shear force. Obviously, this does not conform to the characteristics of tire screws.
The component that really bears the load: the axle head
The axle head means the head of the axle, which is easy to understand. The protruding circle pointed by the white arrow is used to install the wheel.
There is also a hole in the center of the wheel hub. The inner diameter of this hole is consistent with the diameter of the ring on the axle head.
There is also this hole on the aluminum alloy wheel hub, but it is usually blocked with decorations, so it is not easy for us to find it from the outside.
When installing the wheel, the hole in the center of the wheel hub just fits on the axle head, and the two cooperate to bear the longitudinal load of the vehicle. The tire screws only fix the wheel hub tightly on the axle head and rarely bear longitudinal force. It can be clearly seen from the above picture that the center of the wheel hub is sleeved on the axle head.
So the weight of the car body is mainly borne by the axle head, and the screws are mainly to ensure that the wheel hub and the axle head can maintain a good fit.
